Whilst I have become very fond of the blackbirds over these past few months, it's also lovely to see the other birds who like to visit the garden.
I don't know whose muddy footprints these are, but suspect they may well belong to the blackbird.
A pair of collared doves decided to nest in our guttering ~ right by one of the downpipes! They really are quite dozy birds, it's a wonder any chicks ever hatch. When we had scaffolding up around the house a couple of years back, a pair decided it was the perfect place to build their nest despite the noise and the guys walking to and fro. It was a fruitless endeavour, though, as one day the nest and egg were there and the next the egg had gone. We suspect that a rook helped itself to a tasty eggy snack!
Anyhoo, this pair were no more successful ~ I wonder if it was the same couple who chose the scaffolding! For some reason they abandoned the nest and the eggs. We left it all intact for well over a week in case they came back, but in the end cleared out the nest and eggs before they had a chance to explode in the heat!
The doves are still around, although I don't know if this is one of the pair that nested in the guttering.

I really don't find it easy to photograph sparrows, they flit about so quickly. This was just a small gathering, we often have many more than this poking about in the lawn.
I'm hoping that if you click on the photo above to expand it, you will be able to see the sparrows dust-bathing more easily. Trouble is, they are brown just like the soil 😄
They love to bathe and drink from the water bowls we have in the garden. The sparrows often line up waiting to take their turn. This chap was lucky as he had it all to himself.
I so wanted to get a good photo of this very fluffy greenfinch but it wouldn't turn around.
It had obviously put itself in the naughty corner 😄
The robin is a regular visitor, too. It's amazing how he always seems to turn up when I've been digging the soil over.
Like the blackbird, he is another very handsome chap, and also poses very nicely for his adoring public ~ i.e. me!
